The back of the phone doesn't say 3G or 3Gs. It will say iPhone and have the HD size.

I'd be very cautious. I'm assuming this is unlocked? It's your call but depending on the price it might be worth it to just suck it up and buy one from your service provider. Unlocked phones are going to have some issues and often don't support all of the technology. JMO

Really? I've got an unlocked iPhone and as far as I know there's no missing functionality or anything. I travel a lot and using pay-as-you-go plans seems to be the best option so I got an unlocked one -- just bought it from the electronics store at a local mall. The only limits I've noticed depend on the local network eg. no 3G or something else.

The biggest things you need to worry about encountering are iPhones that are unlocked (and any functionality problems associated with that) and 3G models being sold as 3Gs models.

As far as outright fake/counterfeit iPhones, you should have no trouble picking them out. I've seem some fakes out there that are so obvious it's not even funny.

Always, when you're dealing in craigslist, be safe... exchange money in person in a public place. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
