Text plans really depend on the carrier. AT&T has several plans that are outside of the data package. I think you can get around 500 texts for $5/mo.
The interface takes some getting used to for sure. Typing on the screen was hard for me at first because I couldn't feel the buttons. For an on-screen keyboard the iPhone is very good. I still prefer my BlackBerry for typing though.

eyah texting isn't a big issue if you are from the Us. You can get some pretty good packages from different networks for just as low as 4 or 5 bucks.

It's possible, but very unlikely. I press mine pretty hard when I'm texting since it seems to help with accuracy, and I've yet to have any permanent marks or scratches end up on the screen. Unless you have really long nails which could hit the screen, or sand or grit or something on your fingertips, it's not going to scratch.
Still, just get a screen protector and save yourself the risk. They're a couple of dollars at most accessory stores anyway.

The problem i had with texting with the iphone was that i personally have quite large thumbs and i end up taking about 20 mins to type a simple message out because i was too busy trying to tap the right letters...it had to go...i am an impatient person!

You get used to it so quickly, trust me! You can flip it vertically or horizontally, and your fingers adjust. Not to mention, spell check is huge.

Iphone is the best technology in mobile industry so far and it's a absolutely a right choise for texting.
Read below to find out how to send text message by using an iphone.
- Tap the SMS Text icon from the iPhone's main menu. Next, tap the notepad icon to send a text message. Type in the recipient's phone number, or tap the contacts icon to pick a saved contact. This icon is identified by a blue circle with a white plus sign in the center.
- Read your new text messages. Access the SMS Text icon. The total number of unread messages will appear above the SMS icon. Go to the text messages list and tap the unread messages that are identified with a blue dot next to them.
- Reply to your text messages by tapping a name or a phone number in the text messages list. Enter your message, then touch "Send."
- Delete an old text message. Touch the "Edit" icon, then tap the deletion icon next to the message. The icon is represented by a red circle with a white bar in the middle. Or, swipe left or right across the text message with your finger and tap the "Delete" icon that appears next to the message.
- Call or email a text message sender. From the text message list, go to the contact, then the message. At the top of that message, tap "Call." If you've saved your contact's email, tap "Contact Info," then tap the email to send the email message.
- Add a new contact by tapping the name or phone number in the text messages list. Choose the "Add to Contacts" icon to save that contact.
- Decide if you want an alert tone whenever you get a new text message. From the main menu of your iPhone, go to "Settings and Sounds." Turn on the "New Text Message" alert.
Hope this helps

It takes some getting used to when you switch to a touch screen phone. I kept hitting the wrong letters when i first switched. My texts would come out completely misinterpreted.
Plans start from about $5 dollars for the lowest amount of texts included. I would recommend getting a higher plan just in case because they charge you 10 cents for every text message you go over.

To have an iPhone you have to have the special iphone plan. On the original, the plan was $ 20 a month with 200 texts. The plan on the new iphone is $ 30 a month with no texts, if you want texts, you pay on top of that.
