Default Need A Phone For My Dad (59 yrs old)

    Hey Guys!

I'm new here and need some advice. After years of work I've finally broken my Dad and have convinced him to get a cell phone. I want to get him something he will use so I don't think a smart phone is in order. He's a smart man so it doesn't have to be stupid simple but it should be fairly intuitive. What would you recommend for a 59 year old first time cell phone user?

    Hi Sarah,

    Welcome to the PhoneForum.
Are you tied into any one particular carrier?
If not, I'd probably recommend the Motorola Razr for your father. It is a very solid "phone" that has good features, is compact and it very usable. They've been around long enough that you can get them very cheap and usual free with a contract.

This is the phone I recommended for my Grandmother last year when she was getting her first phone and she really likes it.

Here's a like for more info

    Hope that helps.

Hey, thanks for the reply BGray. I actually noticed one of these phones a few days ago looking at the pre-paid models at the mall. I'm thinking a pre-paid version of this might be the best way to start. Thanks Again!

Hi Sarah! You might also want to start with Nokia's N70. I also gave it for my aunt as her first cellphone. She was happy about it since it wasn't that hard for her to learn how to use. There are not much features installed and everything was easy to teach A good start. Just a suggestion though.

I myself have found these phones a few days ago, watching a pre-paid model at the mall. I'm thinking of pre-paid version might be the best way to get started. Thanks again!

I would recommend the LG VX5500. This phone is pretty simple, and easy to use. Perks on this phone include a camera, which I think your dad would enjoy, and it has a built in mp3 player which he might also enjoy. This phone is very reliable and I think it would be great.
