Default Sim cards on the way out?

Do you think SIM cards will be around for much longer? This is what I think. In the near future SIM cards will be removed from phones in favor a client/server model. The information (contacts, etc) stored on SIM cards will be stored on a central server, and your phone will connect to the server (via the internet) to access the information.

I've created a website (www.babyphonedirectory.com) that allows friends to share cell phone numbers. It is an example of the central server model.

What do you think of this model? Is it practical? Do you see the industry heading in this direction?

Those who don't have a chance accessing Internet may not be able to see their contacts. Apart from that, their numbers may be misused by irresponsibble people who love to prank others. In fact, some people may not be able to access their certain contacts directly in case if there is an emergency and this will aggravate more those who don't have Internet access at their home.
