Phone(s)

Carrier:
Default Can't swap GoPhone SIMs for 180 days

My wife has had a AT&T GoPhone for a number of years and it has served us well. With our very limited use and the fact she liked hers so much she bought me one. She wanted the new phone and since I didn't care, I would take the old phone with the new number. All the documentation that comes with the phone is for brand new activations or for upgrades. Nothing for the hybrid of new phone with old, existing number and the old phone with the new account. Knowing this may be an issue, I first called the telephone number found in the documentation. This just lead to frustration, for no human was obtainable. From the att.com/gophone web site, I found a different phone number which eventually does allow a "customer service representative" to be reached. The gentlemen who answered was extremely friendly and never made me feel stupid for not knowing that only had to swap the SIM cards and went as far as to say to swap them immediate and then activate the new account. I even confirmed that this can be done even before the new activation and was assured that this would not be a problem. What the representative did not tell me was that the $30 that came with the new phone would immediately be credited to the old number and the new number would not have anything. What I later found out with the third call, is that a newly activated phones SIM card cannot be swapped with another for the first 180 days! Various calls to resolve either ended with being hungup on (was very calm up before these so I don't believe it was anything I was saying) or was told there was nothing that could be done. I was out the $30. I asked for a supervisor and when he came on the line, he obvious already had an opinion of me and what I wanted. All I wanted was the credit (any kind of credit) that came with the new phone, on the new activation. Tried to give him as much time and as many opprotunties to make this transaction right. He would not and had no intentions to even care. Worst customer service experience I can say I have ever had. Not sure what I will do. I have one phone that works and another that will cost more to make it work. I just hope that if I decide to buy more minutes the new number has not been deactivated for not having any credits. If AT&T shouldn't offer a prepay option if anyone that calls them is treated as a second-class citzen. If you ever want to do something that should be really simple but is not in their plan, don't even try it with AT&T.
